In one of my first blog post I showed how to Play Minecraft (1.20.2) without purchasing it. Unfortunately in the subsequent version, Minecraft version 1.20.2, the trick to enter the Multiplayer mode in a Demo game was fixed and patched out.
It was no longer possible to end up in the Multiplayer Menu to connect to your own Minecraft Server.
Playing Minecraft for free while trying not to burn bridges
Disclaimer: I don’t see (software) Piracy as morally wrong. I own a purchased copy of the original Minecraft Java Edition. (I mean, I bought the game online and linked my email to it, if that’s the way things are considered owned nowdays.)
But what I definitely see as morally wrong is, that Big Tech Companies like Microsoft, Google and Amazon are used in modern-day wars.
I know that I will burn bridges with friends I made along the way, especially from the United States, but sorry the world and it’s problems are bigger than the USA.
No, I’m neither a leftist nor rightist, I’m not Republican or Democrat. I’m born and raised in central Europe and things are a little different for us.
And before someone cries… My Android smartphones are de-bloated from gapps, and runs LineageOS or crDroid. My daily drive on desktop and server is Linux and I only own a handful of good software or games from my childhood.
The Power of Alternative Minecraft Clients
After testing a bunch of unofficial Minecraft Clients and Launchers, I ended up with PolyMC.
An Open Source Minecraft launcher with the ability to manage multiple instances, accounts and mods. Focused on user freedom and free redistributability.
Simple as that. No backdoors, cross platform, easy to install, with tons of cool features. You don’t need to register anything. Choose your operating system, download, install and play.
There is only one little thing to keep in mind: If you don’t own a copy of Minecraft, (that’s the whole point of this blog post) you need to use Offline Account and need to set the Minecraft Server to online-mode=false
in the server.properties
file.
So lets build another world not just in Minecraft and pray for world peace, especially for Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Kashmir and for all the oppressed people around the world.
